Study in Hong Kong Post-Study Work 2026

Post-study work in Hong Kong (2026): OPT/PSW-style rights, timelines, and what international graduates can expect.

Post-study work is often the ROI question for Hong Kong. Details below; full destination context is in the country guide.

Can I Work While Studying in Hong Kong?

Yes, and work rights here are genuinely well defined by the Immigration Department. Full-time non-local students at undergraduate level or above, whose study period is at least one academic year, receive a No Objection Letter (NOL) alongside their visa approval, covering:

  • Part-time on-campus employment and summer jobs: up to 20 hours a week during term time, with unrestricted hours and location during summer months (1 June to 31 August)
  • Study or curriculum-related internships: endorsed by your institution, for up to one academic year or one-third of your program's normal duration, whichever is shorter, with no restriction on salary, location, or working hours for that specific internship arrangement
  • A temporary broader exemption: since 1 November 2024, eligible full-time non-local undergraduate and postgraduate students (excluding exchange students) whose study period is at least one academic year are temporarily exempted from the standard restrictions, allowing employment during the currency of their visa or their NOL's effective period, whichever is shorter

Any employment outside what's specified in your NOL requires separate permission from the Director of Immigration, and taking up unauthorised work is treated as a breach of your visa conditions, so it's worth checking your specific NOL's terms directly with your institution's student affairs office rather than assuming a blanket rule applies.
